Senate passes bill for states, individuals to supply electricity  The Senate on Wednesday passed the Electricity Bill 2022 to allow states and individuals to generate and distribute electricity. Chairman of the senate committee, Senator Gabriel Suswam (PDP, Benue), said, “Since electricity is on the concurrent list in the constitution, the bill has allowed state governments to license people who intend to operate mini-grids within the states.” He said, “The bill also gives legal backing to renewable energy. If you decide to generate one megawatt of power using solar as an energy source, that is also provided for. “That is the only way the power problem would be solved. The space is now open; there is little restriction as to who can generate power and distribute. Judge Otis Wright of a United States Central District Court in California has postponed the sentencing of Nigerian fraudster Ramon Abass known as Hushpuppi to September 21. “At the request of counsel, the Sentencing is CONTINUED to 9/21/2022 at 1:30 PM before Judge Otis D. Wright II, as to Defendant Ramon Olorunwa Abbas,” the court said According to court documents by the United States Department of Justice (DoJ), Hushpuppi  in April 2021, pleaded guilty to the multi-million-dollar fraud charges filed against him by the United States government. A version of Hushpuppi’s plea agreement filed in June outlined his role in a school finance scheme, as well as several other cyber and business email compromise schemes that cumulatively caused more than $24 million in losses. Ogun State Government has advised aggrieved traders at the Olabisi Onabanjo International Market, Ijebu-Ode, who protested the upward review of rent and other challenges, to respect and comply with the arrangement made with stakeholders on the rent review across state-owned markets pending when all grievances are resolved. A statement signed by the Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe, said the state government was working on amicably resolving the issues. Asisat Oshoala, four-time African Footballer of the Year and FC Barcelona Femení star, announces the launch of the ‘Asisat Oshoala Academy,’ (AOA) in partnership with Nike and Women Win. AOA, which is designed to provide access to football and lifeskills for underprivileged schoolgirls in Lagos State.
