A 74-year-old man from Kogi State identified as Mallam Muhammad Awal, has married for the first time. Awal wedded 45-year-old divorcee, Mallama Rahmat Muhammad, in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital on Sunday, August 28.  Speaking to journalists on why he had stayed this late before getting married, the septuagenarian said lack of money discouraged him from approaching a woman for marriage.  "I have always been afraid I might fail in my duty of care to a spouse if I married and it is something I fear and don’t want to joke with. Five of the passengers on Kaduna-bound train attacked by terrorists on March 28, 2022, have regained their freedom. The victims were released today August 2. Among the freed passengers are Prof. Mustapha Umar Imam, a medical doctor at the Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUS), Sokoto. Imam was shot in captivity, raising concerns about his safety. Other passengers who were released are Akibu Lawal, Abubakar Ahmed Rufai, Muktar Shuaibu, and Sidi Aminu Sharif. Kaduna-based Publisher, Tukur Mamu, who voluntarily engaged in negotiating the release of the victims but backed out due to threats to his life confirmed their release to Daily Trust. So far, 27 victims have regained their freedom. With the release of the five victims, the number of those still in captivity now remains at 35. It is however not clear if any money was paid to the terrorists to release their abducted victims.

A dog has been described as the "world’s most useless guard dog" after being spotted lying down beside its owners during a drug raid.  A footage shared online showed cops arresting the three men yesterday July 28, on a ranch in Hortolandia, Sao Paulo state, Brazil. Three suspects were seen lying face-down on the floor with their hands cuffed behind their backs. Their massive Rottweiler decided that it's best to be compliant with officers and laid down beside them.  Officers seized 1,176 bricks containing 1.1 tonnes of cannabis from the property. Narcotics Police said the drugs was shipped to the house in Hortolandia from Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul state. It is believed the drugs were to be sold in and around Campinas, Sao Paulo state. While the men, one of whom owns the house, were taken to the Narcotics Police headquarters in nearby Americana, the dog remained in the property with the woman who owns the land around the house, who police say is not invol...

The Emir of Daura Emirate, Katsina State, Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk, has married a 22-year-old lady, A’isha Yahuza Gona.  According to sources who spoke to Daily Trust, the wedding took place in Safana town of Katsina State. The source also disclosed that the Emir married A'isha at a lowkey nuptials after a brief courtship that lasted barely a week. The bride is a daughter of former local government chairman of Safana, Alhaji Yahuza Gona. Another source told the publication that the new bride was already in her matrimonial home in Daura. Recall that the Emir married a 20-year-old lady, Aisha Iro Maikano, in December, 2021. President Muhammadu Buhari presides over Security Briefing at the State House, Abuja.

Senators from opposition parties have issued a six-week ultimatum to President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle the security challenges bedevilling the country. They also threatened to commence the impeachment proceedings against the President should he fail to address the insecurity within the period given by the lawmakers. The Ogun State Government says it has commenced work on the bad portions of the Sango-Ota-Ijoko road to ease the suffering of commuters on the road. The reconstruction work will move towards Akute on the border with Lagos in the coming weeks.  The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, who stated this during a press conference at the Olusegun Osoba Press Centre, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta,  on Tuesday, disclosed that the palliative work would be completed in two weeks. According to Talabi, there is a cordial relationship between the state and the Federal Government on finding a lasting solution to the deplorable condition of sections of the road. He added that both governments in the past, had looked at some issues together and taken turns to find solutions.
